$130M mixed-use development planned for Hampton

HAMPTON—Following approval from the Hampton Planning Commission during its January 19 meeting, a rezoning application and use permit was submitted by Olde Hampton Village Developers, LLC to Hampton City Council on February 8 to rezone and build on the former site of the Lincoln Park Housing Development in Hampton.

The rezoning application was submitted to change the current zoning designation from multiple residential (R-M) to downtown business (DT-1) to permit the development of approximately 360 multifamily dwelling units, 118 townhomes, 96 age-restricted units for seniors, and 6,000 square feet of light commercial use space that is intended to house a daycare center.

A brief presentation was provided to Hampton City Council members to outline the plans. There were no public comments provided after the presentation. A motion to approve the rezoning application with 12 proffered conditions was made and seconded. The rezoning application was unanimously approved by City Council. A motion to approve the use permit with six proffered conditions was made and seconded. City Council again unanimously voted in favor of the application.

The proposed $130 million project that lies just outside of downtown Hampton is expected revitalize the Lincoln Park community that was demolished in 2016.
